Mr. Elbert "Albert" Waymon, Jr., age 63, formerly of Leslie, Georgia passed Wednesday, September 10, 2008 in Frankfurt, Germany.
Funeral services were conducted 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 260 W. Allen Street, Leslie, Georgia. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The Reverend W. James Hill, Pastor. The Reverend W. R. Waymon officiated.
Elbert "Albert" Waymon, Jr. was born October 10, 1944 in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia to Flora Lewis Waymon and the late Albert Waymon, Sr. At an early age, he was baptized by his father and the late Reverend White at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Leslie, Georgia. Albert was a 1962 graduate of Sumter County High School.
On July 6, 1963, he enlisted into the United States Army at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He served in Korea, Vietnam and West Germany. After being discharged, he re-enlisted and served another tour of duty in Germany. He was united in holy matrimony to Irena Reihs of Frankfurt, Germany, where he resided for the past twenty-five years. They were blessed with two sons, Patrick and Jeffery Waymon. On February 2, 1975, he received an honorable discharge from the United States Army Medical Corps. After serving his country, he was employed at the Rhein-Main Air Force Base in Frankfurt, Germany,where he retired in 2005.
Elbert is survived by his wife, Irena Reihs Waymon, Frankfurt, Germany; his sons, Patrick and Jeffery Waymon, Frankfurt, Germany; his mother, Flora Lewis Waymon, Americus, Georgia; seven brothers, Charles H. Waymon, David Lawrence Waymon, Ronnie James (Bertha) Waymon, all of Americus, Georgia,Euriah Waymon, Fairburn, Georgia, Kenneth Dwayne Waymon, Marietta, Georgia, Kelvin Jerome (Bobbie Jean) Waymon and Michael
Leon Waymon, all of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Reverend Lodenia (Reverend Robert) Coleman, Florence Waymon, all of Americus, Georgia and Gwendolyn Elaine Waymon, Atlanta, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces and nephews; other relatives including several devoted cousins, Reverend Willie (Donna) Waymon, Atlanta, Georgia, Patricia (Elijah) Smith, Americus, Georgia and Dorothy Butts (Uli) Briese, Krefeld, Germany; devoted family friends, Victoria Hohmann, Sylvia Raquet-Hohmann, all of Frankfurt, Germany, Lucille Robbins, Joseph Stewart, both of Americus, Georgia, Joanne Waymon, Montezuma, Georgia, and Willie Mae James and family, Leslie, Georgia; and ahost of friends.
